In his interview, Valery says that he remembers his first concert perfectly. It was in the kindergarten when he had a chance to perform Boi-Wuhi. Young artists, who performed with him in front of his parents, were terribly worried, and he caught a real buzz.
According to him, it looked hilarious from the side, since his crown was not even visible because of the piano: the parents and educators stood in a row, looked at the instrument, and the little musician was entirely hidden from their eyes. Then he was barely 7 years old. And a truly adult, serious concert happened after only a few years. Valera was 11 when he played at the festival for the accompaniment of a bass player and drummer.
And then the young performer was not at a loss, was not at all worried and generally felt completely in his place and in his place. Later, according to Stepanov, Mandrazh and the fear of the audience, which were not at the very first concerts, came. And although now, as the Contractor himself admits, it is easier to exit and play before the public than to go to the bakery, in adolescence, he survived a lot of exciting minutes.
Valery says that he began to engage in jazz with his father as a professional musician, drummer, listening to the record of the famous jazz pianist Oscar Piterson, notes by Niels Pederson and Joe Pass. Including he came across a concert recording in Paris, or th year. He is still sure that this is the best record, the most amazing in Peterson. Discovering the new world of jazz music, the young talent got acquainted with the performances of Chick Koria and Herby Henkok.
Valery notes that it was Henkok’s albums that seemed to him the closest in spirit, full of fan mood - they resembled pictures from the past, forcing him to nostalgic for unfamiliar, due to youth, era. According to Stepanov, it was these records that were one of the most important points in the formation of his musical worldview. It is they who fall under the definition of “incredible” which Valery gives them.
By the way, the musicality of young talent was predetermined by both genes and family tradition. His father is one of the best drummers of the Far East and Siberia. Valery says that at home in perfect condition, the tools of the 10ths have been preserved, on which his father played in various groups. At one of the Moscow festivals, Valery’s father from Igor Breeal received a letter as the most pier, a beam and a swinging drummer.
