There are artists for whom their work is only a profession, a way of making money. There are some of them a few who simply cannot live differently. For some artists, the main thing is admiration for the world around him, the desire to forever capture it, to stop a wonderful moment.

Others are concerned with self -expression - the creative energy accumulated inside is looking for a way out. There are masters who seriously "teach, enlighten." Others do as birds sing - easily and simply, without hesitation. Grigor Danlyan, it seems, does not belong to either the first, the second, or the tenth. He is a mansion, he is on his own, he is "outside the world of being." It seems that this is just the rare type of artist who speaks in the voice of someone who is not yet known.

It is not defined either physically or morally. Probably, this is the voice of the sky, which sometimes chooses very carefully people in order to open a certain veil of real being and give the opportunity to look into another parallel, deeply hidden world. I met Grigor 10 years ago. The life of a fugitive, outcast, life in a foreign land, which are full of biography of Armenians. Tiflis, Yerevan - further other countries, cities, lands, other people, other speech, and other culture.

This outer shell of our life is sometimes heavy, sometimes - indifferent as if left it indifferent. The same strange figures, objects illuminated by the inner light, performed on his canvases when he moved to live in Belarus. The same topics, like historical, seemed to be taken from global culture: Salome, Yudif, Babylonian Tower, Noah's Ark, fish ... Fish struck me especially strongly.

After all, this topic also came from antiquity. The fish, as you know, is a very ancient Christian symbol - this is a secret sign of the first Christians, indicating his prophet - Jesus. Then, when Christianity became an official religion that covered millions of people, the sign disappeared, disappeared or used in allegories of stories about Christ - the capture of human souls, in the story of fishermen from Lake Tiberias, about the miracles of the gospel.

The artists admired the fish, as an amazingly picturesque God's creature - the light plays with gold scales and always watches a lone eye warily. Grigora's fish is completely different. Its primitive meaning is obvious here - the meaning of the “secret sign”, a certain indication of what is understandable only to the initiates. At the same time, it is fish - outside of time - she is a constellation emitting light, and she is a monster that swallowed Jonah.

I am always amazed at his perseverance and hard work. The achievement of its phenomenal light effects is the fruit of the painstaking work, the finest strokes that are applied layer by layer for many days.

Of course, this can only be done by a very patient person who knows seeing the ultimate goal. And then I suddenly literally realize that he is associated with Armenian, with Armenian culture. This is the detachment of my Self, felt in the painstaking of masters of applied art, book miniaturists or stone cutters. The main essence of their work is revealed here - Armenian ornamental - that which is not in any other art or in any other world culture.

This is not in the ornaments of the Near and Middle East, neither in the meander among the Greeks, nor in the frizes of the temples of Western Europe. Armenian whimsical patterns are by no means just ornaments, as it seems at first glance - these are embodied, absolutely real feelings of artists - masters, thus revealing the secrets of human life. It seems that to this day this great contribution of Armenian culture to the world culture is truly not appreciated as well as the contribution of the great Armenian architecture.
